The Challenger Muaythai blog - Antoine Pinto part 2
by Antoine Pinto

For the quarter-finals the last eight boxers were divided into two teams of four, I was chosen first to face Faizal. In matters of pure boxing it was not a difficult fight for me because Faizal is not as technical of a fighter as I am and he does not have my experience, but Faizal is physically very strong and in addition to that he is the national hero in Malaysia and during the fight he would have a whole nation was behind him.

Faizal is a loyal friend and a boxer ... it was hard to face someone who has been on my team. I'd rather have him on my team and have to face him later in the competition than having to fight him first in the quarter-finals.

THE FIGHT
In round 1 Faizal put pressure and lead with elbows, but they weren't very hard. In round 2 he used the same technique, but I managed to make him lose his balance in the clinch. In rounds 3 and 4 I knew he would keep going because he had the entire crowd behind him, I opted to fight using kicks and straight knees. Faizal didn't like the clinch and I was beating him in the clinch each round. In round 5, Faizal was beaten and exhausted so I accelerated the pace and a high kick landed and sent Faizal to the ground . I ended with a sequence of punches which helped me score a TKO.

AFTERMATH
I'm very happy with the result because I proved that I can be in the final square versus the best fighters of the world. I was also happy because of the experience and that I was able to control my emotions and stay calm under pressure in a stadium 100% against me with spectators and hostile fanatics.

I am proud for my boxing school, for my family and for the French flag .At the same time I am sad for my friend Faizal, but it's the law of the sport.

P.S. I hope the same thing for my French friend Cedric Muller .

Antoine Pinto talks upcoming I-1 World Muay Thai Extreme 2011 event

Antoine Pinto a.k.a. Antuan Siangboxing will be fighting as part of the one night, four man tournament at the I-1 Extreme 2011 event. Coming off a good run on “The Challenger Muaythai” reality TV show, the young fighter has been very active as he continues to take on some of the best fighters around the world. Antoine took some time to answer a few questions for Muay Thai Authority about the upcoming tournament, who he would like to fight in the future and more.

MTA: The Challenger Muaythai just finished airing; it seemed people enjoyed you on the show. How was the experience?

Antoine: I think the viewers of TV have loves and enjoyed my Thai boxing style. It was a new experience to live with other fighters but I don't like to prepare and fight without my trainer, coaches and family.

MTA: You are fighting in the one night tournament at I-1 Extreme, is there anyone of the other fighters you would prefer to fight in the first round of the tournament?

Antoine: In the first round I had the choice. I wanted to fight Cyrus Washington but the promotion refused and gave me another opponent (Ilya Grad).

MTA: Do you prepare for a one night tournament differently than you would for a normal fight?

Antoine: Yes, because you have to adapt to different styles of several fighters.

MTA: What do you think is the key to winning the tournament as far as strategy goes?

Antoine: Fighting as few rounds as possible and not getting hurt.

MTA: Do you already have plans for your fights next year?

Antoine: Winning the Toyota Cup, fighting in Fighter Zone World Series 2012, coming back to Lumpinee and Siam Omnoi stadiums for some big fights, may be fighting in North America.

MTA: Is there anyone you feel you would like to particularly face next year?

Antoine: I fought all the best fighter in the world the last 2 years. It’s time for Buakaw, but not sure they would accept to fight against me.

MTA: How are things at Siangboxing, were you affected by the flooding in Thailand at all?

Antoine: No, we are lucky and some fighters of other gyms came to my place to live and train, like Sentiengnoi boxers.

MTA: Your brother Victor will be fighting at the I-1 Extreme event as well. When you fight on the same events he does is it hard to simply focus on your fights knowing he will be fighting as well?

Antoine: Not easy because I'm scared for him and my brother as well for me, but it’s good for me because he's in my corner and gives me heart.

MUAYTHAI AUTORITY - Monday, December 12, 2011
Victor Pinto talks about his upcoming fight at I-1 Muay Thai Grand Extreme 2011

Victor Pinto a.k.a. Leo Siangboxing is the younger brother of “The Challenger Muaythai’s” Antoine Pinto. Both Victor and Antoine will be fighting in Hong Kong and I-1 Muay Thai Grand Extreme 2011. Victor has had trouble getting fight in his usual weight class and is moving up in weight to fight Fung Kit Lo. Victor was gracious enough to take some time to talk to Muay Thai Authority about his upcoming fight and as well as his future.

MTA: You are fighting in Hong Kon at I-1 Extreme against Fung Kit Lo. He is a bigger fighter than you, how do you prepare when you know you are fighting a larger fighter?

Victor: Not a problem for me because I have more experience of hard fights in Thailand than him and I'm stronger and more technical.

MTA: He comes from a K-1 background; do you think this gives you a significant advantage since you fight full rules Muay Thai all the time?

Victor: Only the counts of judges are different. In the boxing ring my skills are better and for sure my opponent can be surprised. I hope my opponent has a big heart because I'm not coming in to play.

MTA: It has been difficult for you to find opponents in your weight class, have you considered making a permanent move up in weight to a different weight class?

Victor: That's the harder for me. I moved up in weight class three times this year already (114-118-122 pounds and today 125).

MTA: Why would you say it is hard for you to find opponents in your weight class?

Victor: Yes, it is difficult in Thailand at my level or not at the good weight and in occident all the fighters at my weight refuse to fight against me. I might move to Fighterzone World Series at -60kg next year.

MTA: You and your brother Antoine have been fighting for quite some time and are both still very young. What are your long term career plans?

Victor: I hope to have good fight opportunities in the future against the best fighters around of the world, but in my category they are Thai and the promoters protect them so that they can stay the champions. I want to have some fights in America-Canada-Quebec and give pleasure to North American people. Promote real Muaythai and give the taste to the young people.

MTA: Is there any fighters that you would like to fight in the upcoming year?

Victor: My friend John Wayne Parr, but I think he is too big for me...ha ha ha.

MTA: Finally can we get a prediction for your upcoming bout against Fung Kit Lo at the I-1 Extreme event?

Victor: If Fung Kit is standing at the end of the fight then it was a good performance for him!
